The chains pull my body in different directions. Think about lifting weights in water w/ tide going in & out. Plus suporting the weight on my neck helps me build endurence in my SCM. Helps my numbers in neck curl move up. If I'm doing any stand up exercise I try to add chains it's just an extra burdon taking me further out of comfort zone
